About the event
Initially published in 1942, Olivier Messiaen's "Quartet for the End of Time" was written in a POW camp. It is a poignant reflection on the atrocities of war and gnawing existential dread in the face of uncertainty.
Originally scored for violin, clarinet, cello, and piano, Stewart has undergone the task of arranging Messiaen's colossal work for soprano, alto, and tenor saxophone. The result is a vibrant reinterpretation of the French composer's magnum opus, lending a new sharpness to the music.
Presented as his final Master's recital, Stewart (alto) will be joined by fellow saxophonists Austin Turner (soprano) and Jacob Richetta (tenor).
